We recently supplied one of our specialist lounge chairs to an elderly couple in Pontypridd to help improve their quality of life.
Sue Skyrme was struggling with the growing pressures of taking care of her husband David, after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2009.
The disease, a progressive neurological condition that causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time, left David unable to walk, leaving Sue with the difficult task of hoisting her husband of almost 30 years from chair to chair around their home.
After seeing his mother struggling, Sue’s son reached out to us to help make both their lives more comfortable, so we supplied them with one of our Chelsea chairs, which offers the highest level of security, safety and stability.
Our portable, Parkinson’s-friendly chairs are also multi-adjustable and tilt in space, meaning users don’t need to be hoisted from chair to chair. Additionally, they weigh just under 35kg, making them easily manoeuvrable and adaptable to various environments.
Sue has since praised the chair, saying: “I’d recommend the chairs to anyone who is in a similar situation to myself and David. It’s so great to see him in the living room and the chair has allowed him to still feel a part of the family.”
It gives us great satisfaction to not only supply David with a chair that can meet his ever-changing needs, but to relieve Sue of the straining pressure of constant hoisting.
Parkinson’s is a horrid illness and can have a huge impact on the lives of the sufferers and their families. If our range of bespoke Chelsea chairs can make life a little easier for those who are affected by the disease, then we certainly feel we’ve done our job.
